Social Media; More than it meets the eye!

How many hours a day do we spend looking at our cellphone or computer? Coffee shops are full of students studying and everywhere we go we can charge our gadgets, and there’s no way we go out without any of these “necessities”. Don’t we feel naked when we have left them at home?  But we need them, even when sometimes we wish we could get rid of them and be free of technology. That thought only lasts for a minute!

Everywhere we go people are working, doing homework, playing or even reading from their kindle or iPad. We have smart watches that can help us with work out sessions, Amazon Echo that tell us the weather, news and play music. Technology improves every day and we try to keep up with it.

So many different gadgets makes it imposible not to be in the Groundswell. Why do you thing we spend so much time watching social media, blogs, apps or videos? Let me explain a couple of examples that companies might not take in account for their own businesses.

Social media: Do you really think that it is only for people sharing pictures of last night’s party or trying to make their “ex” jealous?

                                                          Definitely in Social Media!

Not anymore; according to the Statistics Portal, there are 2.62 billion people on social media. This means that 2.62 billion persons are sharing their life, favorite restaurants, bars, coffee shops, hotels, fashion, among many others. Now, we can see which places our friends like to hang out, witness celebrities using their favorite brands (meaning their followers will buy them too), photos of delicious hamburgers, deserts and sushi. Besides all the above, social media can help us share more. Companies can upload advertisement, promotions, sales, events and even have their own profile. As Forbes said in one of their articles “Social Media Roundup will help you stay up-to-date on all the important social media news you need to know”.

                                                       Definitely in Social Media too!

Blogs. We have blogs to talk about our life, trips around the world and recipes. Yes, but that is not all.
                                                             Definitely in Blogs!

We have blogs about brands, politics, books, everything you name it. These posts are about getting our opinion out there and form communities that share the same interests, values. Additionally, we are looking for those who respect each other’s opinions and want to be heard. So, these views might be about your company, product, customer service, stores or online shop. We can get the idea now that blogs contribute immensely to your business and is up to you to decide how to use this information.
                                                       Definitely in Blogs too!

You can decide to have your own blog and really interpret what the customers write about your product or service. Here is a quote from a Forbes article that accurately describes one of the principles of blogs; “Your blog posts give you a unique opportunity to share your voice and personality, building up trust and increasing your brand’s likeability quotient”.

These are only a couple of examples of what a great idea is to be in the groundswell and I hope this post at least makes you think about it. This could change perception of the internet, social media and technology, but it is necessary and unavoidable.

  1. I personally love being a part of the groundswell. I love to see where my friends are going out to eat, shopping, or traveling to. If someone posts a Snapchat of a delicious looking meal, I will almost always swipe up and use the chat feature to ask where they are and what their meal is called on the menu! A lot of people I follow, especially on Instagram, have even started getting paid for talking about and tagging the products they use on a daily basis. They are ambassadors for a company, making both them and the company money.
